This has been a wonderful year for me thanks to my blog and you readers. I have made so many friends through it and I am very grateful for getting to know y'all . Its been so much fun emailing back and forth on what new lipstick / liner I discovered and learning about your finds ! But above all I am baffled at how many of you visit me everyday to see what I have to say . I cant thank you enough for it !

It has been so much fun to share my makeup thoughts and experiments with you and thanks to your encouragement I dint chicken out this year from anything...okay I did from spray tan and hair gels. A lot of products worked their magic on me and on many of you too !

However a few trends and products stood out. They were the highlights of 2008 for me makeup wise and I wanted to revisit it with y'all ...

1. The Red Lipsticks came calling way before the holidays ! I tried them all from $6 ones to $24 and am glad I did !

2. I learn't a thing or two about doing a Mean Smokey Eye and Classic Feminine Eye Looks.

3. Glitter Eyeliners ?? Who knew glitter would come back to haunt me after so many years and that I would actually like it !

4. My most favorite lip glosses cost less than $10 ! Now that saved me from becoming bankrupt.

5. I have a whole new level of love for color on my cheeks.

6. My search for eyeliners that "stay put all day long" has ended. No more time , only money goes into that area ...

7. I am no longer the crazy concealer girl who haunts Sephora / Nordstorm. I have found the right one for me .

8. Biore is still my favorite drugstore brand and Eyecream ?? Yes, I'm a regular...

9. Tinted Moisturizer is way better than foundation....must show a bit of skin.

10. Some skin care products are actually worth the dough you put into it. I am glad I discovered a couple of them like this one and this other one

What products made it to your list this year ? Did you try the red / dark lip trend with me ? Wonder what 2009 has in store ...See you then !!

Love,
Indian Girl

Looks like sparkle and glitters are all the rage with makeup brands competing to win our hearts on that front . The latest in that line for me, is from The Body Shop . The Sparkle Eyeliners from The Body Shop were released along with their Winter '08 Collection. They come in two colors : Silver and Green ( very festive!) .

The first thing I loved about them was the size of the bottle. Its cute and small almost like the perfume samples that come in tiny vials - perfect for even the smallest clutch. The next best thing is the formula . The glitters in both the liners are fine, small and densely packed so you get an actual line of glitter and not a few sparkles adhering here and there. I had that problem with Urban Decay - big sparse glitters that sometimes got caught in my line of vision and all I could see were huge sparkly dots ...LOL ! None of those issues with The Body Shop Liners.

My favorite among the two was the green liner. It is a deep green with some blue sparkles in it. So very pretty and almost subtle. Its not the loud kinda glitter. More like the demure , feminine glitter. The silver on the other hand will surely get your eyes noticed ;)

Regularly they cost around $15.50 but are on sale (it says makeup - 3 for $10) now on their site. Definitely check it out if fine, wearable glitter is what you are after.

What Is It ?

Mood Lighting Shimmer Cremes are a sophisticated take on sparkle that go on light and creamy, and dry down to a fine, powdery finish. These silky crèmes are applied with fingertips to the face and decollete, leaving you luminous.

They are designed for all skin tones and are available in two shades:
Afterglow ($20.50) – A pearlescent champagne with flecks of gold and violet.
On Fire ($20.50) – A bronzed shimmer with a swirl of opalescence

My Experience :

I tried the Mood Lighting Shimmer Creme in Afterglow. The moment I read about gold and violet specs I knew I had to !

The product has a creamy feeling to begin with and almost turns powdery when it touches the skin. Since it is so so very subtle , it is very forgiving when it comes to application. You don't need a mirror or brush to see where and how it goes on because I don't think it can look out of place anywhere - that is if anybody notices it.

If you are looking for some bling bling for your face at night, this isn't going to cut it for you. But if you want a subtle - almost not there kinda glow for work then get this. It is more fine, sophisticated, champagne shimmer than anything else. The violet and gold are sparse adding to the overall subtlety.

Multiple Ways to Use Shimmer Cremes :

Dina Gregg, the Co-Creator of Shimmer cremes suggests a few ways of making the best out of this product.

- Use it as a highlighter below your brows and on the inner corner of your eyes.

- Use On Fire to sculpt cheeks below the cheek bone and Afterglow on the upper cheekbone.

- For a sexy pot, dot a bit on your Cupid's bow.

- Try Afterglow on the high points of your face to bring back the summer glow.

- Try the products on your collarbone / shoulders - anywhere you want a hint of shimmer .

Got to love the versatility of using it on your eyes, lips, cheeks and body !

Earlier this week I gave you the scoop on the Three Custom Color Specialists Lipstick shades inspired by the TV series - The L Word. I tried out one of the lipsticks from this collection - Alice .

The color was inspired by the character Alice's quirky, fashion forward look. Alice, the lipstick on the other hand is described as a " warm, fleshy rose with champagne shimmer ". It translates to a warm pretty rose color that is nothing you haven't seen before but something you must have. The better thing about the lipstick is its award winning formula - Very moisturizing yet no feathering. Don't worry about the champagne shimmer - it is more visible in the tube than on my lips.

This one goes straight into my purse . Its such an easy color to wear all day , any day !
Have you entered the contest yet ? Read more on their other shades Bette, Kit (the other shade I wanna try) and Shane here

How was Christmas ? Did you get what you wanted ?

UPDATE: Boy , does this stay put or what ! Since it was so moisturizing I dint expect it to stay on for more than 2 - 3 hours, but I was so wrong. It remained just where I left it for almost 5 hours and a Cajun dinner ! I love it ! Plus the color is so warm ...looked great on my skin tone.

We are always dying to know what celebrities use to look as good as they do on screen. And one such product is this - The Beauty Ammo Kit by M.B. York. It is used on various sets including Desperate Housewives, Dancing with the Stars, Dreamgirls, Regis & Kelly and many more ! Why is this so popular you ask? Because it is a easy , 3 step kit that helps mask all signs of aging around the eyes. Younger looking eyes are the key to an overall younger looking face and that's exactly what this product promises to deliver.

What does the kit contain?

The kit consists of a Collagen Eye Mask, a Line Putty , a Camouflage Eye Disguise ( concealer) and two sponges.

How do you use it ?

Step 1. "Pump it Up, Leave it On " Collagen Eye Mask. Apply the mask under both eyes with your fingers, you should see the product all the way across under your eye. DO NOT BLEND! Use a lot more than you would normally.

Step 2. Line Putty. Sweep the line putty right over top the eye mask. Now, take one of the enclosed sponges, and press the product into your skin. It will all appear to disappear. Don't blend, PRESS.

Step 3. Camouflage Eye Disguise. Sweep all the way across under your eye, and on your lid. Use a lot, paint it on!!! Now, with the same sponge, blend in the concealer. It makes a great base for your shadows, and gives great coverage under the eye. If you use your fingers, you are going to think it is too yellow.

The Collagen Eye Mask can also be used at night under the eyes, but just use a normal amount. Always leave it on, it is meant to hydrate all day and night. The Beauty Ammo Kit should feel really good, not too heavy, just soothing and hydrating. The results last all day, or until you wash your face

My Thoughts :

I think its a great kit for special occasions like stage performances and such when you want to look your best and for a long period of time. It also makes for a great gift to bridesmaids or to any of your friends. For $85 you get a lot of product in a cute pink box. The only gripe I have is with the concealer, it comes only in one medium toned color. I am still wondering how this can be used on everybody. It looks okay on me, though I would like it to be a little more warmer but it may not suit many other skin tones. This apart , its a very useful kit to invest in if you are beginning to show some fine lines around the eyes and would like them to disappear without having to try too hard.

If you happen to visit them on their site, do check out their other kits. The eye shadows in their Paint by Numbers kit are super soft and so easy to work with.

Long gone are days of black smokey eyes. Using color on your peepers will bring out other features like your skin tone, the brown in your eyes, the pink in your lips or the natural flush of your cheeks and much more. "Smoky doesn’t always mean black," says Mickey Contractor - popular Bollywood Makeup Artist. "You can do it with any color and no, it does not have to match your dress. It can be a striking contrast too — use your imagination!"says the man !

So, go wild with your imagination ! I certainly did ;)

1. Red and Black Smokey Eye Look : The red certainly brings out the brown in my eyes !

2. Leona Lewis Inspired Blue Eye Look : If its works on Leona, it should work on you ! Arnt you the diva in your hood ?

3. Nude, Brown, Black Eye Look : I dint win the contest I made this for, but the look was a sure winner for me !

4. Purple Smokey Eye Look : Who knew purple glitter could look so sexy !

5. Black and Gold Smokey Eye Look : I made this look for an article in Times of India, which eventually got published but the picture wasn't used and neither did they mention my blog's name ( apparently it would double as advertisement for my blog). I was simply referred to as "an Indian Girl" in India !

6. Silver, Gray and Black Smokey Eye Look : Arnt these what Grammy awards are made of ?

7. Bronzy Smokey Eye Look : A look made especially for hazel eyed beauties.

8. Aishwarya Rai Inspired Blue Eye Look : Ash looked gorgeous with blue on her eyes and so will you !

9. Smokey Eye Look for the Day : The copper color pencil ( Urban Decay - Lucky) is the best part of this look.

What is it ?

Skinn's Mattefying Day Treatment Seal will not only keep your moisture and treatments in your skin all day, it also keeps dryness, pollution and sun damage out! Day Treatment Seal is the perfect no-shine, under-makeup base to reduce the visibility of pores and imperfections. Mattefying Day Treatment Seal will help keep your skin looking matte, fresh and bright all day

My Experience :

Your girl decided to test this out on a day at the mall, getting in and out of stores, clothes, coffee shops and topped it off with greasy Chinese lunch !

The moment it touched the skin on my finger, the weight less gel turned into a velvetty thing with a powder like finish. I couldn't even feel the tiny ridges on my fingers ! Everything it touches turns into velvetty smooth goodness. A magic potion like that , I couldn't wait to put it on my face.

A Primer and a Mattifier

A little goes a long way, so I spread the purple gel on my face - it turns colorless on the skin. Topped it with some mineral powder foundation which took all of 10 seconds to apply because the surface was so smooth and flawless. And then I hit the mall !

All day at the stores I kept looking at my face which looked remarkably different. It is tough to say what but I guess it was the evenness of the skin - texture wise. As with any new product, I was skeptical and waited for it to turn messy - but it dint. It is great at controlling the oils on my face and acted as a super smoothing primer ! I would think this would be a great base for people who have some post acne unevenness on the skin or for anybody who wants do their foundation faster every morning.

My Overactive Imagination ?

The only thing I felt that I had to share was a weird feeling I had. I kinda felt like the sweat / oils on my face were trying to escape but something was blocking it. You know like the prisoner was trying to escape and the guard was very good at his job of keeping him in. Its a funny feeling, nothing disturbing at all ...but then it could just have been my over active imagination.

If you first wanna try it , I would advice getting the 14ml jar for $10. This should last you at least one month or more easily, so I'd say its a very good investment ! Buy yours here

Farida is the very talented food blogger at Farida's Azerbaijani Cookbook. To me she is the online expert on Azerbaijani and Turkish food. It is amazing how many cuisines you discover online and being the foodie that I am I was super excited when I found Farida's site.

It is a delight to browse through her site. Everything looks so delicious and yummy ! I have tried her Pirojki - potato pies except mine were shapeless thanks to my zero talent there, but thanks to following her recipe they tasty just fine ! These are perfect for cold winters evenings when you wanna munch on something warm. If you are into baking try her Zebra cake ( which girl doesn't like her animal print ;)), a sure party winner. I am big fan of yogurt and eggplant so her Creamy Yogurt soup and Eggplant rolls are next on my radar.

Farida is currently working on her own cook book . Here's wishing her all the success in the world !

Lets see what Farida's makeup philosophies are :

What is your one "go to" makeup item?

Hmm, good question. I have to admit it does change from time to time. I have a tendency to switch from eye liner to lipstick or lip gloss and vice versa. I think currently my one go to makeup item is lipstick. I use light colors, nothing too catchy as I like my makeup to be natural looking and simple.

What beauty products do you have in purse right now?

I couldn't answer this question off the top of my head so I had to check what’s inside my purse.I rarely carry beauty products in my purse but to my huge surprise I found a Loreal Sugar Plum lipstick in it.

What "beauty food" is a must for you?

I wish I could give you a long list of foods I eat believing in their beatification power. But alas, I am not too beauty conscious. Although I try to eat as healthy as possible (for example, I trim fat off the chicken) I never think about what I should eat for beauty purposes. However, I am conscious about the creams, lotions and things of this nature I use on my face. For example, although rarely, I use only clinically tested and fragrance free facial creams. I think they feed my face pretty well

What is your beauty / make up regiment before hosting a fabulous dinner party?

I rarely use makeup on a daily basis. For fabulous parties I do wear makeup trying to still keep it simple. I apply dark-brown eyeliner, concealer( Clinique Line Smoothing Concealer) for the veins under my eyes (I have an almost translucent skin under my eyes), just a little eyeshadow and lipstick and I am good to go. Everything in small amounts.

What would you classify your make up regime as ?

It is partially A and partially B – just a lip gloss and a big smile - it’s my go to look.

a) I'm just a lip gloss, kohl girl

b) Freshly scrubbed face and a big smile- is my go to look!

c) I'm a full on glam girl - LOVE putting on my lashes

Thank you Farida !

Love,
Indian Girl

Spotted Eva Mendez wearing 2 beautiful eye looks with a deep blue color. I think she looks prettier than ever at these promos of her new movie. Rihanna on the other hand added a playful twist to her ensemble with a matte blue-purple winged eye. I tried Rihanna's look out with the blue from Julie Hewett's Boheme Palette, UD Bourbon along lower lash line and Urban Decay Rush on my lips. Thanks to UDPP the color became much more deeper than what I thought it would look like. Nevertheless, its easy breezy beautiful ;)

For Eva Mendez's look try Urban Decay eyeshadow in Goddess (below) and their eyeliner in Deviant (above)

Tis’ the season to get festive and glamorous for those endless holiday soirees! But, when juggling two or three parties a week, it can be tough to keep up with a fresh and festive beauty routine. “This is the time of year when everything has that extra finishing touch, hair, makeup -- the whole ensemble,” says William Hall, a recent graduate of Empire Beauty Schools, the largest chain of beauty schools in the country. “Makeup and hair should change depending on the formality of the event, but here are a few goods things to keep in mind when heading out on the party scene…”

Keep your hair out of your face. Cameras are flashing constantly and people want to see your pretty face!

If you have long hair, simple up-do’s are a no-brainer. Add a touch of bouffant glam by backcombing the crown of the head before pulling hair into a pretty, flirty pony, or into a “Sarah Palin” like French twist. It sounds funny, but it’s a great look that will always be around.

If your hair is short, keep it slick and away from the face. If you don’t normally use a styling product, try one. You can transform your short work-day-do into a glamorous look with just a little bit of mousse.

If your outfit is full of sparkles, sequin and is fire engine red – opt for a softer makeup look. Fresh skin, a soft pink lip and luxurious thick black lashes are a great compliment. If your outfit is more subdued or chic (think LBD!) then wow everyone with a smokey eye, or a deep red lip, but never both at the same time!

This season hair accessories are the perfect way to add that extra pizzazz. Use a sparkly headband or jeweled hair pin to secure wispy flyaways. You can even create your own band with a pretty ribbon and bejeweled brooch!

Always keep bobby pins, a red lipstick or pretty clips in your purse. When you get invited to a last minute party, you will have everything you need to get party ready, but quick! Adding something unexpected doesn’t take a lot of talent or time but always looks special.
