New York Color has really upped its game this year. The latest from them is the Pink Persuasion Collection to add a hint of pink to your spring ! The collection has shadows, long lasting lip colors, glosses, Blushes and nail enamels all in shades of pink. I tried a couple of products from the collection just because I love drugstore stuffies. They make me happy without causing me a heart attack at the billing counter !
Speaking of heart attacks did you catch Confessions of a Shopaholic ? I wanted to run out of the theatre pulling my hair out. It was that that bad. They took the whole wow factor out by making it American. It was suppose to be Cheeky and English not boring and Manhattan-ny. I know for sure that I am not gonna ever think of Isla Fisher when I am re-reading the series and imaging the characters...
Back to color ! The eye shadows in the collection are their City Duet Eye Shadows($2.99) in shades Pink Wink and Pinky Swear. Both the shades are very similar, just that Pinky Swear is one shade darker than Pink Wink. They consists of one highlight shade (pink) and a contour shade (brown). The packaging very cute and that's the one reason to get these. You can easily throw a bunch of these shadows into your purse without taking up too much space. I only wish they were more pigmented because on my skin I couldn't see much of the color.
Coming to the product that's adding lots of pink to my spring - The Color Wheel Mosaic Blush in Pink Berry. I love this stuff ! The Color wheel Mosaic is a pan of blusher with swirls of pink and berry shades. It adds a hint of pink to my cheeks and highlights them all for $4.99. I was really surprised by its quality - no chunky glitter or shimmer. Just 4 perfectly harmonious shades that add a pop of delicate color to my cheeks.
If you have to get one product from this collection , I highly recommend the Color Wheel Blush Powder. Have you tried them ? Let me know what you think of em !

Man, I was a kid with crayons the day I got these colorful pens ! Though I had no nail polish on, I had to use them. So I painted my nails asap with the Insta dri nail polish and started working on the Picasso in me !
Using the pen is super easy. You open it and press a little bit against your nail so the color comes to the tip and from there on its art art art ;) I tried out the blue and the hot pink and absolutely loved the shades. The yellow and pink polka dot look was my fav. The tip is nice and pointy making it very easy to draw thin staright lines or small dots. These pens are available in 8 colors including black, white, silver and gold. I am planning on getting the gold, to go with clear nail polish. The white of course is great for french manicures and gray is a hot color on the runways !
If you just used the pen on your nails you can easily wipe it off with a wet cloth so mistakes are easily forgiven. That being said do not forget to apply a top coat or everything will be gone by the next day. If you are at CVS or Walgreens grab one and give it a go.They only cost about $7.95 and with the super beauty deals that CVS often has, I'm sure we'll find it at much lower cost or on a BOGOF. Plus, who knows you might give up your manicurist and save all the dolla dolla !

Every major city has a big issue with the traffic and more affordable cars isn't making things easy on anyone...What do you say ? What are your thought on this ?

My girl Suman always has THE best sites / articles as her gmail status. The latest from her was on this application that prevents you from drunk dialing !! The hazards of that...not anymore !
The tequila might have gotten you to do a few wrongs but even drunk you cant go wrong with these lipsticks from Lipstick Queen - the Saint and the Sinner Lipsticks ($18). Sinners are the recklessly pigmented, pompous lipsticks that almost tattoo your lips with their color while Saints are the mellow, airy, light ones that leave you feeling calm, serene and thoroughly moisturized!
Its spring, so what better color to indulged in than Sinner Coral. A deep coral with a hint of brown so it doesn't look bright and ghastly. If color is all you desire, you buy this baby. Not my friend on chapped lip days but gets me gorgeous otherwise !
The Saint Natural shade goes on my top 10 most favorite lipsticks list this year. I know, its only march but this shade is brilliant, y'all ! It is so moisturizing and the color is a perfect MLBB - my lips but better. It is mauve- pink shade that should look great on anyone and everyone. If you wanna try just one lipstick from their entire collection I would highly recommend this one.

My favorite concealer makers are having a Concealer Sample Fest !!! This is your chance to get samples of three creme concealer shades with any online purchase at Three Custom Color Specialists !! All you have to do is write the shade names in the " Customer Notes " area during check out.
This is an amazing offer for those of us who have a difficult time finding a concealer that matches our skin tone perfectly. Most often a mix of two or three shades works great ! With this offer you could choose three shades, mix it up in the comfort of your home , in proportions you will feel comfortable in ! You can then order all the three shades or use Three Custom Colors Custom Blending option and get it made in the proportions of your choice. You can read more on Custom Blending for concealers here and here
How to choose shades ?
You can take a look at the swatches of all the 10 available shades below. They will give you an idea of the color and what might suit your skin tone. For reference I use #6 shade and sometime mix it with #3 or #5. But mostly its just #6.

Another useful tool will be to check this page on their website. It talks about warm vs. cool and has pictures of women with the corresponding skin tones ! Click on the woman's picture to find the shade used on her. And if you are a Makeup Artist who works on large range of skin tones, you should so check out the Professional Concealer Palette ! It contains all the 10 shades and a tiny concealer brush ! It also works great for makeup parties ;)
Go on try some samples ! Who knows you might land on the magic formula !

Ola Ladies !!
Its only Tuesday ...but the past few days have been eventful for Indian Girl ! First somebody signed three vertical lines and took my UPS package !!! Not a real signature...just three lines !! What did it contain ? Lipsticks of course !! No points for guessing that one !
Have you tried the HD foundations from Make Up Forever ? I was checking those at Sephora a couple of days back and this MUA comes to me telling me all about it. She tells me that this is her favorite foundation for Women of Color and goes on about getting me matched. By then I had already found my match and was happy about how it looked. But she did the classic mistake....picked out a foundation at least 3 shades darker and told me it was my perfect shade. I just smiled, thanked her and left. When when when will they learn to match us ?
And last night...now this is weird...not spooky but weird. I was on my way home and it was around 9PM. I had just seen a car pull away to the shoulder with a flat tire. It was one of the windiest nights and just as I was thanking my good luck...I have one too !!! Forty five minutes and five chewing gums later AAA showed up, fixed it and finally your girl got home...
Now if you were following me twitter you would have heard all these stories LIVE. LOL !
Oh and Starbucks is coming out new ice cream flavors !!!!! Caramel Macchiato is my most fav coffee (closely followed by Espresso Truffle). And now I can eat my Caramel Macchiato tooo !!! Hurrray !
And I hear Asin and Sonam Kapoor are endorsing fairness creams ?? Now brightening scar area, skin clearing, glow enhancing - I get. But fairness !!! Guess somethings never change...
How is it going for you ? Lets play catch up ! Leave a comment and tell us how you have been doing lately.

Is it a lipstick ? Is it a gloss ? It is a little bit of everything. Take a little lipstick and a little gloss and you get a Gloss Stick ! The idea is totally fab especially for lipstick lovers like me. Who doesn't hate the heavy, sticky feeling of glosses. Yet, we put up with it in the name of vanity. At the same time some lipsticks are pretty drying and provide no moisture at all. A mixture of the two was the answer to all our woes !
The Pure Gloss Sticks ($18.50) are ultra creamy and are made with the 3D Optic Pearl Technology to create the illusion of fuller lips. You will see in the lip swatches that they have this wet shine look - so pretty , so moisturizing ! They are available in 12 beautiful shades that cover pinks, mauve, reds, corals and more. Product apart, the packaging is nothing short of dope . I like that I can see the color on the tube without having to look at the label. This is very important when you have a huge drawer full of lipsticks that are stocked in no particular order ( or no order). Plus the slim tube design makes for easy and controlled application.
I tried them in two shades - Orange Poppy and Wild Plum. Orange Poppy looks like a bright orange in the tube but on the lips it comes off looking very warm and inviting. Pair it up with peachy cheeks and may be a winged eyeliner for an understated glamor. Wild Plum is a very pretty plummy shade with a dash of deep pink. I am glad I got it coz I don't have any shade like this in my stash. I'd pair it with a mauve blush and some highlighter for day and night.

Hi Ladies !
Here it is finally, the tutorial on eye makeup application. So many of you wrote in asking for a tutorial that described the various areas commonly used to apply color in most eye makeup looks. So I sat last night and made these. Hopefully you'll find them useful :)
Upper Lash line - The area right above / along your lashes on the upper lid of your eye.
Lower Lash line - The area right below / along your lashes on the lower lid of your eye.
Water Line - The area between the white of the eye and the lower lash line.
Lid Area - The whole area of upper lid of your eye starting from the upper lash line to the crease
Crease - The natural fold of your eye. The natural groove in the skin of your upper lid.
Outer V - The outer end of your eye, towards the temple.
Inner Corner - The inner end of your eye towards the nose.
Highlight - The area right below your brow bone.

I cant, I just cannot wait for nail polish to dry. Not that I am that busy a person but I am that restless when it comes to drying nail polish. That is why the Insta - Dri Nail Color makes so much sense to me. Almost always I feel like doing my nails just before I hit the bed and almost always end with streaks the next morning coz I didnt wait long enough for them to dry.

Sally Hansen promises one coat coverage, one stroke application and a drying time of 60 seconds. The brush is flat and not rounded like most nail polish brushes which might account for the one stroke application claims. But what about people like me who have small nails ? It is not that bad but I had to wipe off a little bit from around the corners. The one stroke application is true with a few colors and not with some. With Blue Streak, Blush Rush and Sonic Boom I got a good amount of color and coverage with one stroke. But Lightening and Racey Rouge needed about 2 - 3 coats for a streak free look. All that is okay because they do dry very fast. Not exactly 60 seconds but more like three minutes or so. Three minutes...I can wait.

There are more than 24 colors to choose from ! I really wanted the yellow Lightening coz I don't have any yellows and it is my fav color ! Sonic Boom is bright springy hot pink with a hint of red - very pretty. Blush Rush is a regular everyday kinda color that anybody would feel comfortable wearing - a light pink with gold shine. Racey Rouge is a wearable red with loads of pink in it. A wonderful color to ease you into wearing red nail polish. All the colors are creamy and leave a wonderful shine. Overall great pick me ups if you dont wanna wait 20 mins for your nail paint to dry !

Hi Ladies !
I wanted to introduce y'all to Desi Beauty Bloggers Inc (DeBBI). It is a community I started for all you guys. I hope all Desi Beauty Bloggers and readers will join, so it becomes a one stop shop that answers all your burning questions on makeup & beauty products.
Please join this community and to invite fellow desi readers / bloggers to join too. The main reason why I felt the need to start such a community was because I receive several emails requesting for recommendations on concealers or foundations and sometimes I don't have answers to questions on brands that I am not familiar with. I feel really bad when I don't have answers for my readers. That got me thinking on creating a forum where you guys / fellow bloggers and I could answer those questions and it becomes repository for all kinda Q/A, recommendations, thought on products.
If you have a blog please join the community and display the badge on your site so other desi's find out about it. Helps us spread the word ! Looking forward to seeing you guys on DeBBI !

I have been dying to try this mascara, thanks to all the hulla gulla surrounding it. So many bloggers were giving it away and finally I managed to win it from a giveaway by Toma at MakeupMasala. Yay !! But did the mascara stand up to my expectations ?

I got the mascara in very black and it was very black. So points for the intensity of color. It gave me some volume without clumping my lashes, that's good too. But the one thing I really wanted from it was the " extreme ultimate provocative " length that Maybelline promised. I got little length from it but nothing close to provocative. Maybelline gimme my length !!!
The many other good things are that there were no flakes, it washes off very easily, is absolutely feather light and holds the curl well. Overall except in the promised length department, this mascara is actually very good. I personally think my chances of finding a good mascara at my neighborhood drugstore is just as good as my chances of finding one at Sephora. This is one of those finds ! Have you tried the Maybelline Lash Stiletto ? What did you think of it ?

Do you love Too Faced too ? If so then you've got to check out a super sale they are having ! Shadows for $4, gloss for $5, concealers for $4 ! Plus they are also offering free shipping for orders more than $75 ! This is a good time to indulge and save. Whats say ?Love,

If you are serious about sun protection, Go Get This Stuff Right Now ! I hate the sun and I hate getting tanned so a big shelf in my bathroom is dedicated to sunscreens. I've tried them all, at least a majority of them, I have. So take it from me when I say this stuff is amazing !
What Clinique says about the SPF 30 Face Cream
Innovative SolarSmart technology stabilizes high-level protection against the aging and burning effects of UVA and UVB rays. Triggers a repair that helps prevent signs of aging. With solar-activated antioxidants that help prevent visible damage. Gentle enough for sensitive skins. Dermatologist tested. Oil-free. Water & Sweat Resistant.
My Experience
No white cast !! This is the first SPF 30 cream I've tried that did not leave a white cast ! This is a big deal if you are brown like me because the white cast is just ugly. Another great thing about the Clinique Face Cream is that it leaves a matte finish on my face. I applied my moisturizer and followed it up with a little bit of this cream and it didn't feel oily at all. My face remained that way for at least 4 hours ! Since it wasn't oily , there were no break outs and neither did my eyes sting.
The packaging ...oh how adorable is the yellow !!! It is my most favorite color :) Just so sunny, bright and happy. Plus it is the perfect size to carry around in your purse instead of those bulky huge bottles and tubes. And...no funky smell either. Seriously can it get any better !! I am gonna continue using this and for hotter days they have a SPF 50 Face Cream. Will check out and get back to you soon...

So what did I carry with me on the trip last weekend ? Not much actually...just a small bag of brushes and one small makeup bag. I knew we were not gonna go out much so I packed light.
All I took was :
Face
Becca Tinted Moisturizer - Camel
Jouer Concealer - Cameo
Three Custom Colors Concealer Palette
Cover FX Pressed Powder
Susan Posnick Blush - Camelia
Tarte Bronzer
Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Carmindy Natural Highlighter - Luster Rose
Eyes
Milani Eye Brow Pencil - Natural Taupe
Urban Decay Eye liner Pencil - Zero, Lucky, Electric
Urban Decay Cream Eye Shadow - Rehab
Clinique Eye Shadows - Maple Blossom, Cherry Blossom
Julie Hewett Twilight Palette
Lips
Thevi Lipstick - Drama
Sally Hansen Gentle Lip Plumping Gloss - Tease
Pur Minerals Lipstick - Moonlit Pearl
Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Carmindy Lipstick - Rose Parfait
And of course as always I had several million lipsticks and glosses in my purse ...all that is not accounted for. Wow , that list sure does look long...but trust me its not. Just a couple of this and a couple of that...thats all.

I am back !! I had a blast with my bestie. There is something just so comforting about being with your friends who have known you from your stupid teenage years...People who just love you and don't expect you to pretend to be anyone other than your own sweet self. Quite liberating actually. It was raining cats & dogs in Austin, so we decided to stay in and chat chat chat and EAT EAT EAT. Boy I am telling you, I piled on pounds from just this one trip. We Indians show all our love through food...if you love somebody you feed them until see them growing in size right in front of your eyes. LOL !
While I was there, I obviously tried out all beauty product she had. We at AIMB have been lovers of drugstores way before it became the in thing with other beauty junkies. So lets carry on with business as usual and talk about some drugstore stuffies I recently tried out.
First stop Cleansers. The Neutrogena Fresh Foaming Cleanser is supposedly a cleanser and a makeup remover. But it removes way more than just makeup. It removes all dirt, grime, oil and natural moisture so well that my skin was left pale and dry at the end of one wash. This stuff is strong and extremely drying. May be the oiliest of oilies could use it but not the rest of us n the normal / combi / dry zone.
The Clean & Clear Morning Burst Shine Control Facial Cleaner is super. I love this stuff. Though it is a little bit drying and not the least bit moisturizing it manages to clean and energize like crazy. I wake up and wash my face with this stuff and it feels like I had a dose of Vitamin C ! The scent is so fresh and so invigorating that my senses are bursting with energy and I am ready to face the day !
Next stop Moisturizers. The Neutrogena Oil Free Moisturizer SPF 15 is surprisingly oil free ! You put it on and it sinks into the skin immediately leaving no white film or oil. It comes in a pump style bottle and a little goes a long way. The cream is also very moisturizing. After the dryness that the foaming cleanser caused this product came to my rescue and got my skin back to normal.
The Olay Complete Night Fortifying Cream is my bestie's favorite night cream so I was obviously very interested in seeing what it was all about. It ha a pleasant Olay scent, is kinda light weight, moisturizes very well and overall a good night cream. But I think I am allergic to it...or to blackberries, I am not very sure. You see , I put this on and then proceeded to pop a blackberry into my mouth and within minutes my face was red and itching along my jaw line. I immediately ran and had a shower and everything got back to normal. But I am still wondering if its the cream or the fruit...(Please let it be the cream...I love black berries)
So that's it. A small tour on cleansers and moisturizers. What is your favorite drugstore cleanser / moisturizer ? Do tell, so we can go on another tour with your favorite products !
Love,
Indian Girl
Hiya...sorry I haven't posted in a while. I'm out visiting some friends and my lap top crashed. Will be back to posting in a day or two...hopefully. Till then take care and don't forget to enter the Moroccan Rose Giveaway !
Removing makeup is just as important as wearing it. The more you apply the more there is to remove. But removing can be easy thanks to several products available in the market and in your own kitchen ! With so many options there is no excuse for going to bed with makeup !
1. CLEANSER : Your regular cleanser usually does a great job at taking makeup off. This works best for face makeup like foundation, blush, bronzer. But you might need something more for taking off eye makeup. This is where makeup removing cleansers like the Mineral Melt from Pur Minerals come in handy. They refresh your face and take off all the makeup !
2. OIL CLEANSING : I knew about oil cleansing long before I knew about make up. I remember my mom using oil to get rid of the paint on my face and that of my sister's when we participated in school shows. There was no other way all that stage make up was coming off ! You can use any oil like Almond oil, Olive oil, Baby Oil, Coconut oil. Apply it all over the face, rub gently in circular motions. Let the oil soak for 15 - 20 seconds and then take it off with a damp cotton pad. Follow with a cleanser.
3. VASELINE : Vaseline a petroleum by-product is just as good as oil for taking off makeup. Plus most people have a bottle of it somewhere in their purse ! It is a product that could get you through the day if any unexpected makeup mishaps happen.
4. CLEANSING CLOTHS / BABY WIPES : This is possibly the easiest method for taking off makeup. The pre-soaked cloths are super handy, have several soothing ingredients like aloe and do a great job at taking off makeup. The only thing to look for is how gentle your wipe is. I personally like Biore Cleansing Cloths. They are gentle, soft and often takes only one cloth to get rid of all the makeup ! Baby wipes are a great option for sensitive skin. If you are lazy about taking makeup off before you it the bed, these could turn things around for ya.
5. MOISTURIZERS : After oil, the next thing I tried to take my makeup off with was a moisturizer. Heavy creams like Ponds Cold Cream, Nivea are very good. However, if you have oily/sensitive skin you might want to avoid this because all the oil form the cream could cause break outs. It is best to follow it up with a cleanser and warm water.
6. MAKE UP REMOVERS : They are made just for this purpose so often they are the best at taking off all the junk on our faces. There are oil - free cleansers and some that contain oil, so it is all a matter of skin type and choice. I love my Neutrogena oil - free makeup remover. It is all I have been using for more than three years !

I was just making some green tea and suddenly decided to try the green tea face mask. The benefits of green tea are plenty. The antioxidants and the flavanoids in them fight free radicals and provide good anti aging benefits. So why not make use of something that would other wise just end up in the trash.
What I did was first to make my tea, cool the tea bag while I drank it. Ewww...I don't like green tea. I really do want to like it but no I don't. I really have to be in a " I can drink green tea now" kinda mood for me to even semi-enjoy drinking it. The only reason I gulp it down is because it is good for health. Coming back to the mask. Open the tea bag and get the tea leaves out into a small bowl. Now we need some adhesive for it to stick on my face. For that I added a bit of honey. Honey has several moisturizing, antiseptic properties apart from being a power house of antioxidants. I mixed the two ingredients and applied it liberally all over my face. Let all the goodness sink in !
Twenty minutes later I slowly washed it off. But not before gently rubbing the tea leaves all over my face. It actually acts as an excellent exfoliator while being very gentle on the face. So what happened when I washed it all off ? Lets see, I looked fresh and super clean. I don't have a lot of pores...but if I did then I am guessing they would be super clean too. The exfoliation left my skin soft and there was an all round brightness. The downside is that I felt a little dry and tight despite the honey ! So I guess this combo would be excellent for oily skin. For dry skin may be some Vitamin E / Almond oil with the tea would be a good choice. Overall, it wasn't a miracle mask but definitely much much better than some masks in the market that I've paid big bucks for !
Have you tried the green tea mask ? What do you think of it ?

PS: HAPPY HOLI !!
I have been using NYX shadows for a long time now but have never written a "review" on them. This post will make up for it.
In short my NYX experience has been nothing short of great ! I have never been disappointed or even mildly unsatisfied with any of the NYX shadows I've bought. The shadows are finely milled, go on smoothly, have no glitter chunks , brilliant colors with brilliant pigmentation. I really have nothing wrong to say about them. In general I avoid matte shadows because you are never sure about the color payoff. But the few mattes I have from NYX have been good. Have you tried their trio in Copacabana ? Its a very wearable, work friendly trio of matte browns. I love them, I do.

Coming to the look...with the spring (or summer) already here in Dallas, I cannot be bothered with anything heavy on my eyes. Most often it is a choice between just a liner or some shadow. This is something I wore last weekend when I was out in the 8o degree heat along with the rest of Dallas, who were happy to see the sunshine and got out their motor cycles in celebration. The look is extremely easy , fun & girly. It just just a gold ( NYX Blondie) all over the lid and pink ( NYX Hot Pink Glitter ) along the crease. I love this combo ! Hot Pink Glitter is a bubblegum pink with teeny tiny blue sparkles - very different, very pretty. If you haven't tried NYX yet, its about time you give them a shot !
