They have 10 shades in total, most of which are aimed toward medium to deep skin tones. It is often difficult to find a concealer that suits the needs of women with deeper skin tones. I have said over and over about how much I love their concealer and this segment on QVC that will feature one of the founders of Three Custom Color Specialists might be a good way to see why and to check out if you could get placed in their color range !

Dear dear dolls
Thank you so much for helping me with the nails. After I finish up with this post I shall sit down and color me crazy with Hi Res - the Coral shade.
Lets talk makeup. I wont be at the waters all day long but since its a beach town, it calls for something a bit more out of the ordinary. Right ?
I know I need sunscreen and powder bronzer. I know I'll rock some full lush brows. But for the rest I'll need your help.
These are five looks that I thought would go well with this holiday theme and neutral enough to be worn with anything ! Do you have a favorite ? What would you carry if you were on a beach vacay ?
(#3 was thrown in for good measure)
# 1 - Golden bronzer and some girly pink
# 2 - All gold / bronze face and intense black kohl rimmed eyes
# 3 - Au Naturale
# 4 - A hint of blue on the eyes and pale pink lips
# 5 - Nude Makeup

Exactly one month back I detailed my experience with the Sun Maita At Home Threading Kit. There was A LOT of interest on this subject and it continues to be one of the most popular story on AIMB. So, I decided to write a follow up post .
Its been a month since I last threaded my face. I've had just the regular amount of growth in this time. I am not very sure if its psychological but I feel like the hair is teeny weensy bit finer.
Hair apart I decided to try threading the second around with the little growth I've had in a month's time. This was a great decision because threading was a breeze ! I appreciate the kit a whole lot more now ! One thing I noticed was that if I had the two threads twirled way too tight, it hurt like hell. Winding it about 4 times is more than enough. It should not be wound very tight. This also makes it whole lot easier on my fingers because I don't have to use a lot of pressure.
I am still over the moon about the fact that I don't have to put up with any scars on my face. Even if I run the thread many times on the same place all I get a really small dot of a nick which neither hurts nor looks weird.
Since there was so much interest and since I absolutely love this product I decided to have a giveaway . Enter today to win One Complete Sun Maita At Home Threading Kit worth $150 !!!!
There are two ways to enter this giveaway
1. Subscribe to receive daily updates from AIMB via email. Just enter your email address in the box below and leave a comment saying you did !
or
2. Follow me on Twitter and tweet me / leave a comment below saying you do !
If you are not on twitter, you must get on it - NOW. I talk a lot more on twitter about whole lotta beauty and non beauty things and once you get on we can tweet each other endlessly about anything and everything under the sun !
This contest is open to US And Canada residents and ends on Friday, August 7, 2009 at 11 PM CST. I'll be picking out the winner randomly and announcing them on Saturday.
Apart from this , I would love to hear about any other questions you have when it comes to facial hair. How do you handle facial hair ? Do you have a routine you follow ?
Love,
Indian Girl
How many times have I already mentioned this ? I don't know. But I'm gonna say it again. I am hitting the beaches this weekend with a bunch of my friends !! And I need all the help I can get.
Until last night I was truly excited about this vacay but one long talk on the phone with my best friend and I realized I am not half as prepared as I should be. In the words of my bf "We've never really had a beach holiday !" and then she went on to talk about maxi dresses and what are you wearings... I clearly haven't thought it out well yet.
But its not too late. I have until Friday to get myself prepared. I need help with nails, hair and makeup. Lets start with the nails today.
Sally Hansen recently came out with a pretty collection of High Definition Nail Colors ! I know, right ! High def everything ! The colors are all super vibrant and multidimensional ( so, this is how you use the word). And what makes it multi dimensional ? Crystals !
Yea, the story gets better and better ! These polishes have real liquid crystals in them which are responsible for the dazzling lustrous high def effects !
Apart from the intense shades, the thing that appeals to me most about this collection is how fast they dry. Seconds, mere seconds I tell ya. And absolutely no bubbles.
The 8 colors in this collection include :
Cyber - Purple
Blue - Intense Electric Blue
Pixel Pretty - Cool Blue Green
Hi Def - Bright Warm Green with a hint of yellow
Lite - Warm Yellow
Digital - Cool Pink
Three D - Warm Intense Orange
High Res - Coral Pink with a hint of Rose
Help me choose a shade to paint on my fingers. I am struggling between High Res, Digital and Lite. But then again, I look at the Blue and Cyber and fall in love with them as well.
So, help you girl out and pick one for her , please.
Now, if you are feeling generous with helping me out, I'd love your suggestion for my toes as well ! Just leave me a comment and I'll be oh so grateful to you for putting me out of my misery.

Love,
Indian Girl

Finally, after long. After Oh so long, I am posting a tutorial. I dont know what came over me today but I knew I just wanted to play with my brushes. And this is the result - a sexy taupe eye look. I love how it turned out ! The star of the look is Amaretto a beautiful taupey bronze shade by Jouer. MACoholics will call it a deeper version of Satin Taupe. I call it my new favorite sexy shade !
Forgive my inability apply the false lashes well. Its an art , I tell ya and I am not an artsy type.
Forgive that one unruly eye brow hair that just had to bend all the way and make itself more visible in the pictures.

2. Apply a beige / champagne cream shadow all over the lid.
I used Jouer - Cashmere
3. Apply a taupe shade all over the lid

4. Apply a black / dark grey shadow on the outer V, crease and blend.
I used Julie Hewett Black Chandelier
5. Apply a shimmery white shadow as a highlighter

I used Nixie Ultra Pearl in Jupiter
7. Apply liquid eyeliner along upper lashline and a pencil liner in black along the lower waterline
8. Curl your lashes and apply Mascara
9. Apply false lashes.
I used Revlon Fantasy Lashes Self Adhesive Lashes

That's it !

Finally one without the falsies. This is how I would wear it...

A few weeks back we had the opportunity to ask Dr. Aparna our Burning Summer Skincare Questions. Though I was expecting only SPF and tan related questions we ended up getting questions on several other skin issues as well. I am not very sure about the complexity of the issues on which questions were submitted but I want to add a disclaimer stating that neither AIMB nor I am in any way responsible for the answers in this post and any treatment advised. In other words, reader discretion is advised. Skin issues are complicated and must be addressed with the same care and concern as any other health issue. Please visit your dermatologist and take his advise before trying out a OTC treatment or any any other home made treatments.
Okay so now that we have the disclaimer out of the way, lets get to the questions. All great questions. I learnt a lot from all this and question #6 in particular is one I would advice everybody to take a look at.
Big Thanks to Dr. Aparna for taking time out to answer all our skincare questions.
1. I have a question on hyperpigmentation...well melasma. My mother has a serious case of melasma and we have tried many things to remove it and no help. Also she has medium dark skin and is very sensitive. She burned when she was using the sensitive kit from PCA for hyperpigmentation. Are there any home care, over the counter things she can use ?
Melasma has multiple causes and the level of pigmentation can be deep, superficial or mixed. Most of the over the counter kits contain stronger percentage of Glycolic Acid which tends to irritate and peel the skin. If your mother has sensitive skin, then she should not be using the over the counter kits.
2. I never used to use sunscreen because they all either burned, were sticky on the face, or caused me to sweat like crazy and rolled off my skin looking like a greasy mess. I have combination skin. I can see the hyperpigmentation on my face as a result of not wearing sunscreen. Right now I'm using bare escentuals spf 30 powdered sunscreen. I have a question on the effectiveness of powdered brush on sunscreens. Also, Is there any effective liquid or other type sunscreens you can recommend for sensitive skin. I'm also very fair, is spf 30 good or should we use more ? – Crissy
Using sunscreen is essential and SPF 30 sunscreen is good enough to use. The important thing is to have full coverage on face and neck. I am not in the favour of using powdered sunscreens as absorption of it is a problem. You can use lighter lotion based sunscreens of SPF 15 and top it with a powdered sunscreen of SPF 15. This will give you enough protection and at the same time will take away the stickiness.
3. I have a question regarding my hands. I have medium color skin. My right hand seems to be darker, i see more lines in them than my left hand but both are dark in the joints around the fingers. I've been told it is because of cracking my fingers so often, is that true or is it from the sun or a combination of both? And are there any lotions or creams that may help even them out? –N
Darker joints are not because of cracking in fingers. It is just a racial feature usually found in Indian/ asian skin having darker skin around the joints. Your right hand may be more sunexposed, hence, may be a little darker than your left hand. You need to use a sunscreen and moisturizer on your hands. Skin is thinner on the hands and hence, is also subject to aging faster due to lack of moisture. Using a moisturizer will help. For pigmentation you can consult a dermatologist who can assess the level of pigmentation and recommend the further course of action.
4. I have question about hyperpigmentation as well. I have dark spots around my mouth that get worse during the summer. I always use sunscreen/exfoliate and i've tried lemon juice, paulas choice lightening gel, tumeric, hydroquinone, the body shops moisture white cream, ddf's holistic lightening gel, and the whole line of Shiseido White Lucent products. basically, I've tried everything and spent alot of money on fixing this issue. can you please recommend something that won't cause damage to my skin (meaning not harsh).
You have tried a lot over the counter products. Going by your history, you seem to have photopigmentation. Peri-oral pigmentation is general y accompanied by peri-oral dermatitis (which you may not have noticed). I would advise you see an expert and avoid using over the counter products yourself as some of them can even cause rebound pigmentation.
5. Is it important to put sun protection on your scalp and hair as well? if so, how do you do it? and is there a way of getting rid of dark tan lines around the neck and legs (which are obvious when you wear t-shirts with wider necks, or flip flops)?
thanks! – Kriti
Using sunscreen on your scalp is not important unless you are bald. For hair you can use a good serum or a conditioner. If you have long hair, you can use a scarf or tie them. Cover your hair with a swimming cap when you go swimming. After swimming, don’t forget to have a bath and wash your hair. For dark tan lines around the neck and legs I would advise you to use a sunscreen.
6. What is the difference between the different rating systems like SPF, PA pluses and the stars? How is SPF measured? I saw a sunscreen in the drug store with SPF 90, what does that mean? Plus I'm confused because I keep hearing people need to apply 1 oz of sunscreen on the body and 1 table spoon on the face and that we need to reapply after a few hours is that true or do they just want us to waste product?
SPF is a measure of UV B protection. It is a well accepted measure. PA pulse and Stars are a measure of UV A protection and they are not so widely accepted. Stars are usually used in America in Over the counter sunscreens. Single Star represents – Low protection, 2 stars represents Medium Protection, 3 stars represent high protection. Sunscreens mentioning broad spectrum or dual protection offer protection against both UV A and UV B rays. SPF is a ratio of how soon the skin will burn with sunscreen as opposed to without sunscreen. SPF measurement is done in laboratories wherein sunscreen is applied in a patch on the back and is then subject to UV B radiation.
SPF 15 sunscreen gives 90% protection against sun burns for 4 hrs. Any thing higher than this gives just incremental protection. E.g. SPF 30 gives 92% protection against sunburns for 4 hrs. It is correct that you need to apply 1 oz of sunscreen on the body and 1 table spoon on the face and yes, you need to reapply sunscreen every 4 hrs. Incase, you are outdoors, you need to reapply every 1 hr
7. What I can do in the summer to protect my skin against keratosis-pilaris like bumps (I find that it gets much worse in the summer - probably due to sweat, BUT I don't sweat that much at all!!). What products (besides those containing hyaluronic acid) can be used? Do you have any recommendations for natural products like turmeric etc ? - Purnima
It is very useful to use products containing salicylic aid or glycolic acid. At home, you can use turmeric or sandalwood.
8. I am a 27 year old female and I have a medium brown skin but I have 2 shades of brown in my body. My face is darker than my neck and below. This is only because of the tan that I have acquired during my long years in India and now that I have moved to the US, I want to remove the excess tan on my face so that I look more even toned. Please help. I would prefer more of home remedies. - Ria
You have got pigmentation. I would not recommend any home remedies for that. Use sunscreen regularly, the pigmentation would go in 2-3 months. If you want quicker results, you can get Microdermabrasion or Glycolic peels done.
9. My name is Jessica Somrajit by the way. My question is, what is the best way to get rid of dark spots caused by acne?
Retenoic Acid based creams prescribed by dermatologists can help get rid of dark spots caused by acne. Occasionally, Benzoyl Peroxide / Glycolic Acid based creams can also help. Best is to consult a dermatologist to know the course best suited for you.
10. My skin isn't that dark though, more on the tan, olive side which leads me to my question about hyperpigmentation (which is kind of embarassing): even when I remove the hair on my upper lip, there is still a bit of a dark shadow cast. It's not too dark but how can I fade it? I've tried OTC fade creams hydroquinone but I think it made it worse. I also have dark spots in my armpit even when the hair is removed, any suggestions on how to get those to go away? I'm desperate – Tatiana
Pigments are strong where there is hair especially those with complexion on the darker side. I would not recommend OTC products as they may cause rebound pigmentation. I would advise you visit a dermatologist and get the level of pigmentation assessed and embark on the program as suggested.
11. What is the best way to treat a cuticle infection ? The skin around my nails have been sensitive for a while and they hurt sometimes. I believe this is a cuticle infection. Could you recommend some home made remedies or Over the counter creams that I can use ?
The infection can be either bacterial or fungal. I would not recommend any home remedies/ OTC products. It is best to go to the doctor to get the infection diagnosed and take the right treatment.

When I first heard about the Smashbox Reign Collection, I was pretty blah about it. The packaging looked different and that's about it. But after actually testing the products I have only one thing to say - the collection pictures do not do any justice to the beauty of these shades or the exquisiteness of the packaging.
Inspired by the Tudor dynasty of the 1400's the collection is a modern take on the regal indulgence of those times. The evident theme is the presence of both matte and shimmer varieties of the shades. The shadow palette's have them, the blush has it. The lip products have a creamy matte lip pencil and a shimmery gloss ! Truly a magnificent combination of two of a kind !
DOUBLETAKE LIP COLOR ($22)
I wanted to write first about my most favorite product in the collection - the lip color pencil. You know I've been all over pencils this summer and I shall enter fall with the same. These pencils are matte and creamy, unlike my other glossy lip pencils. They pack color with the same intensity as my mom packing food onto my plate.
You cannot not love the colors. On one side we have Currant the lip liner - a matte berry shade and on the other side we have the lip color Amaretto - a flesh toned peachy pink shade. Currant can easily be used as a lip color. the outer edges of my lips are a shade darker than the rest of it and currant is exactly that darker shade No one could guess I had something on my lips when I had this on. Natural at its best.

And Amaretto is to die for. This shade brightens up the whole face ! Though my lips are not as light as this shade, it manages to fit perfectly. I am so in love with this pencil !
Price - $22
Purchase - Nordstrom, Sephora, Smashbox.com
Purpose - Lip Color and Lip Liner
Position -
FUSION BLUSH - REGAL ($32)
The next in line on my favorites list. Regal has a nude-peachy matte shade on one side and a warm shimmery peach on the other side. Its a subtle blush that adds a faint warmth to my cheeks. Not one for contouring or a conspicuous cheek color . I cant wait to pair with deeper warm berries or raisins during fall. Right now I am rocking it with the amaretto lip color !

Price - $32
Purchase - Nordstrom, Sephora, Smashbox.com
Purpose - Sheer Peachy Blush
Position -
EYE SHADOW PALETTE - MONARCH ($42)
Monarch is a slightly more warmer palette of the two. It includes a trio of matte soft gold, shimmering soft gold, matte copper, shimmering copper, matte deep brown, shimmering deep brown.
Oh wait that's not a trio. You see, its like this. We have a penny sized matte shade surrounded by the shimmery version of the same shade. How brilliant is that ! Matte shades are great along the outer V and crease and the shimmery ones work well as all over and as highlighters. The shades are nothing original but they earn big points for the wearability and the matte + shimmer combo idea.

PACKAGING :
The outer box and the compacts have this huge emblem of the Smashbox dynasty. The compacts have a leather like finish and the emblem is engraved on it. Very regal, very grand !
Overall, its a collection for everyone. Its just so extremely wearable that I see myself reaching for it every single day. I am going on a tiny vacation this coming weekend and plan on taking just this collection and a bronzer with me. Its compact and has everything I will need for a two day warm glowing vacation at the beach !
What are your thoughts on the Smashbox Reign collection ? If you ask me, which is the item you must get. I'd ask you to go for the lip color.
Happy Monday
Happy Monday Ladies ! We are having some rains out here - FINALLY ! Something about rains just warms me up and gets me all cozy. To keep me from feeling drowsy I started my day with a retro track by Madcon . Its gotten me all pumped up !

Right now I drooling nonstop over the Smashbox Fall 2009 Reign Collection. That lip pencil is Gawgussss as is the Monarch Eye Shadow Palette ! In fact I am thinking of taking this stuff for my vacation next weekend to the beaches of TX. I even plan on getting some fake tan on before I go. I wanna show off golden even tanned legs, man ! Do you have any tips for a first time tanner ( is that a word ?) .
And Ooh Ooh ...I've mastered contouring. Okay "mastered" might be exaggerating it but hey, that's me. I exaggerate my contouring abilities.
Ooh, look what I found. Killer Smokey eye alert !!!(Click to enlarge)
And sorry it took me so long but here is my most requested Breakfast Oatmeal recipe.
I have this special thing I came up with . Its called the V MIX. Why ? Partly coz its my mix and partly...True Blood's special- " V ". The V Mix works great with oatmeal, cereal, as topping over ice cream and in salads !! Plus its super healthy.
V Mix
Dried Cranberries
Raisins
Pecans ( Hello...its TX !!)
Sliced Almonds
Walnuts
Dried Apricots
All these are chopped into tiny pieces. I use scissors to cut the fruits and the nuts, you get the chopped ones at the stores.
Breakfast Oatmeal Recipe
V Mix - 1/4 cup
Instant Oatmeal - 1/2 cup
Post Honey Bunches of Oats Cereal - 1/4 cup (optional)
Flax seeds - 1tsp
Milk - 1/2 cup
Sugar / Splenda - 1 tsp

Who says eye makeup has to be complicated ? Certainly not me
You definitely do not need this tutorial on eye makeup application.
And you most definitely need not under go loads of blending pains to come up with a killer look.

What you do need is an eyeliner ( and some concealer and some mascara). Certainly helps if its this one. This gorgeous one from Rock and Republic Cosmetics with a kinky name - Bound Gel Eye Liners.
I am new to gel eyeliners. I know the whole enthusiasm over its novelty has come and gone but bear with me while I discover it for myself. To say that I am mesmerized by these would be an understatement. An overstatement would be - I cannot live without these. But I will go ahead and say it - I cannot live without these.
The shade I tested out was Mental. No, seriously that's the name. Mental is deep blue with a brilliant metallic sheen to it. Not to be mistaken with shimmer. No shimmer people - its as shimmer free as Miss Matte over here. The metallic sheen is from the color - its a metallic shade of blue. Just the prettiest blue ever. Shade apart the formula is ultra creamy, extremely easy to apply and stays on for hours. Oh wait is that why its called bound eyeliners ? Coz it binds to your eye ? So, its not so kinky ? Guess its just my wild imagination and lack of cute tall boys around. In one sentence - totally fab , totally stylish and totally worth the dough !
So, tell me how do you like em. I'm talking about the gel eyeliners...not the boys.

The past ten days or so have been awesome makeup wise. I started working on this tutorial and as part of it I was testing out various ways of wearing the look and to perfect it. Everyday I changed a little something and saw how much of a difference it made and finally when I was happy with a routine I decided on putting it up for you guys to try !
The Quest For The Perfect Products
It all started almost two weeks back when I made a trip to Macy's to decide on the products that would give me what I was looking for. There are several tutorials online and most of them are just a repeat of another. The same products, the same brand, same routine. I wanted to come up with an original look that was not only basic and super easy to replicate but also use products that were easily available, would suit people who were prone to makeup allergies, sensitivity to fragrances, one that did not burn your wallet ( as much) and of course no limited edition stuff.
After making rounds of several brand counters I zeroed in on Clinique. Its not only a brand that I love but they also happened to have everything I was looking.

Remember ...
I am going to start off with step by step instructions on how to do the dewy look. I have also scattered some cute pics of models with pretty makeup on. For real life, a toned down version of it will kick a$. At the end of the steps I have added several alternatives to the look. Healthy skin is the key but all of us have some issues or the other so I am only going to talk about how one can use makeup to create this look. One must remember that each of have different types of skin, different needs from makeup, different comfort levels with makeup and a different idea of what dewy is. This is a look I came up with that has worked very well on me and its something to get you started on. Change it up, play with it as per the demands of your skin.

Makeup Wedges
Step by Step Tutorial
1. Start off with a clean face and hands.
2. Apply Dramatically different Moisturizing Gel all over your face.
3. Wet the makeup wedge with water and squeeze out the water.
4. Spray the Moisture Surge Spray onto the wedge and dab it all over your face.
5. Apply concealer under your eyes and on the lid if necessary.
6. Take the required amount of foundation onto the back of your hand. With the same wedge apply the foundation all over your face and neck using dabbing motions.
7.. Spray the Moisture Surge Spray on the other side of the wedge and dab it again all over your face
8. Let the foundation set for a minute.
9. Take some cream blush on your finger and dot it on top of your cheeks. Use the wedge to dab it on the apple of your cheeks.
10. Take just a drop of the Uplighting Liquid Illuminator on the back of your hand. Working with some of it at a time, dab it along the bridge of your nose. Next dab some of it on the 'C' shaped area along the outer edge of your eye extending it to the top of your cheek bone.
11. Apply some of the Liquid Illuminator under your brow bone and on the eye lids.
12. Curl your lashes and apply the Naturally Glossy Mascara.
13. Apply the Butter Shine Lipstick - baby baby
14. Spray some Moisture Surge Spray onto the wedge and very lightly go all over your face with it.
15. Admire that translucent glowy face of yours.
Deconstruction
The key to the dewy look is hydration. Dabbing the Moisture Surge Spray helps keep your skin constantly hydrated and reinforces the moisture with every repeat application. The Dramatically Different Moisturizer is a gem of a moisturizer especially under makeup. Thanks to you guys for recommending it to me. The Clinique Super Moisture Makeup is so wonderfully moisturizing and not one bit oily. It has a sheer to medium coverage, works very well for normal to dry skin and wears well for at least 8 hours. The Uplighting Liquid Illuminator in Natural is just that - naturally illuminating. Applying it on top the cheek bone and the bridge of your nose is the key to an over all glow. These are the parts of one's face that stand out and reflect light so adding a bit of an illuminator here is enough to make your whole face look radiant. The creme blush if dabbed in excess can be quite pigmented. However in the end going over the whole face with the moisture spray, takes care of excess of anything and brings the whole look together.
Alternatives
- If you have very clear, even and don't use foundations, mix a bit of the illuminating liquid in your moisturizer and apply all over face for super radiant complexion.
- If you have a problem with acne or pores, apply a face primer after applying the moisturizer. Let it set for a minute and follow with foundation.
- If you have a very very oily face apply a face primer after applying the moisturizer. Follow with your regular matte, oil free foundation.
- You can also mix a bit of the liquid illuminator with your foundation and apply all over your face.
- You can also use water in a spray bottle instead of the Moisture Surge Spray. No spray bottle - no problem, just sprinkle a few drops of water onto the wedge or directly onto your face.
- A skunk brush can also be used instead of the makeup wedge.
- For this look, I would avoid powder anything - powder blush, translucent powder, powder foundation, powder highlighter. To me powder takes away from all the dewy-ness but then again, to each his own.
I was extremely satisfied with how this look played out - its dewy, glowy, hydrated, everything is in right amount, nothing in excess, natural yet put together. Its all about effortless sheer luminosity ! I cant talk enough about the Super Moisture Makeup. After being a slave to Tinted Moisturizers for ever, I took a step forward to a medium coverage and couldn't be more happier with this formula. Surprisingly it is more natural looking and has me feeling extremely comfortable. It is so light, I can barely feel it on my skin ! Overall - super satisfied !

Okay so this is how we do it. The new Stila Lip Enamel in Giggle is an adorable shade ...just not on me. So I paired it with the uber pretty new Lip Glaze in Kitten - a warm golden beige - pink shade and the result was just the prettiest pink that I could almost wear everyday ! This is also how you tame a wild intense gloss like Giggle.
Gist of the story : Layer a warm gloss over a cool one to cancel out the "coolness" of the cool gloss.
Now onto some Lipgloss Math. FYI this is the only kinda math I am good at.
