This tutorial was requested by lovely reader - Nosh. She wanted me to make a tutorial on how I get my eyeliner to apply a thin line along the upper lash line. I think it is the liner I use - Prestige Liquid Eye Liner that does the job and requires absolutely no talent from my side :)

Few thing to remember if you plan on lining your eyes after applying your shadow is :

1. While applying your shadow don't rub it into the lash line. Apply it across your lid but do not pull the shadow downwards into the lash line.

What happens when you have shadow on you lash line is the shadow tends to act like a blotting paper. Just like when you put a drop of ink on a blotting paper it soaks up the ink and spreads it around ...the shadow feathers the eyeliner making it look thick and uneven.

2. The feathering happens even more with a cream eyeshadow. So let your cream shadow spread well and dry up a little bit before applying your liner.

3. Apply your liner as close to your lash line as possible. This makes it look thin and gives you more room for redoing any bit that goes wrong.

4. Since my eyeliner is like a pen, I see to it that only the tip touches my skin. This makes the application easier and helps draw the line as thin as possible.

I usually apply eyeliner in 3 easy steps.

1. Starting form the inner most corner I draw a line 1/3 way along the lash line.

2. I extend this line another 1/ 3 way through the middle.

3. The last 1/3 bit I usually do in short strokes coz I find it difficult to handle the eyeliner along downward slope of the eye.

So seriously... as you can see its nothing that I do, its the eyeliner I use :)

You could also try using a gel eyeliner with an angles eyeliner brush. Some people find that it gives them better control. Use a Q tip to correct any mistakes. If you want to know how to draw a winged eyeliner along your upper lash line. Check out this tutorial.

Here is how 3C's Wallflower looks . I tried to swatch it on my cheeks , but really it just did not show up. So I swatched it on my hand. As you can see it not seen much here either. Hopefully I'll have better luck with the other colors.

Indian Girl

Thanks so much for the tutorial, Indian Girl! I think I just need practice in getting it closer to my lash line. I end up with a thick goopy line, sooo bad, hehe :P

Looks like 3C's Wallflower would be good in a different color. I am thinking of getting the purple one but I am afraid it'll make me look muddy! I'll let you know what I pick up =)

Hey Indian girl,

Thats a lovely post...I till date can never manage to apply liner.Sadly, I love it the most. Will surely try this way. Is this prestige eyeliner available in India?

Hey Nosh !
The violet Lotus from 3C is a sheer Plum tone blush so there is no way that it will look muddy. I am not sure about your skin tone but all of these colors are sheer so none of them will be over powering on any skin tone, I guess.
I cant wait to hear what you get !
Also, there is a pen eyeliner from Prestige($7) and Shu Uemura ($18). You could try them !

Hey Rupa !
I share your love for the liquid liner ! Unfortunately I don't think Prestige is available in India. But I'll look at whats available there and will tell you what alternatives you could use :)

nice tutorial. i purchased a liquid eyeliner recently but the one time i used it, it just gave me a one fat harsh line above my lashes, lol. i like that this broke it down easy enough for me to try again.
