If I had to choose just one , it would be the heavy lip liner. You can call it my pet peeve. I cringe when I see the dark brown lip liner with almost clear gloss filling the lips. Cringe. Throw Up. Nauseating. Disgusting. Stomach Churning. I'll stop here.

Tell me what is your beauty pet peeve. Is it the lighter shade of foundation ? Too much eye makeup ? You can tell me. I can keep a secret.

Love,
Indian Girl

Spider legs eye lashes....iiiek!!

Sunitha said... @ June 24, 2009 at 3:27 AM

Actually two pet peeves specific to us Indians

1. Wearing foundation/powder that is too light or too pink

2. Too dark lipstick... just because we are Indian it does not mean that we cant wear colors other than maroon or brown!!!

An Indian's Makeup Blog said... @ June 24, 2009 at 3:28 AM

Hi Kizzy !

yea the dreaded spider leg lashes ! Its definitely on my list too ! Thank God for Naturally Glossy mascara ;)

An Indian's Makeup Blog said... @ June 24, 2009 at 3:32 AM

Hey Sunitha !

Totally agree on the Indians wearing brown and maroon. Classic. Lets just say I don't like those 2 colors. I would have said hate but I'm not going to. It is my personal mission to get Indian women to try out colors other than those two. will you help me with it ?

Ria said... @ June 24, 2009 at 3:36 AM

My biggest make up pet peeve: the quintessential maroon lipstick and the maroon nail polish among Indian women. Lighten up sometimes ladies!
I also cringe at a heavily made-up faces...they look like stage make-up to me - not a good street look.

Anonymous said... @ June 24, 2009 at 3:45 AM

1) Not blending in the foundation properly

2) Too dark/heavy eye makeup for daytime

An Indian's Makeup Blog said... @ June 24, 2009 at 3:46 AM

Hey Anamika !

LOL ! You girls are awesome. Sunita above was saying the same thing. We should all totally hang out together ! Will be riot ! I also don't like it when they - "I don't think I can carry it off" when it comes to other shades. I'd much rather they try it a few times before convincing themselves

An Indian's Makeup Blog said... @ June 24, 2009 at 3:52 AM

Hey Meena !

I'd be a complete mess if I wore eye makeup during day. Concealer and mascara when necessary or most often I just curl my lashes and run out. What is your day time makeup routine like ?

Laura said... @ June 24, 2009 at 3:56 AM

I agree completely with the lip liner issue. I also don't like pencil line eyebrows. You know the ones that have no hair; they're just drawn in.

pharm_chick said... @ June 24, 2009 at 3:57 AM

LOl i agree with the too light foundation, dark lipliner/clear lipgloss combo and the dark lipstick thing!! i also dislike too much blush.. it looks very clownish. thats why i have a lighter blush, so even if i overdo it (if i dont have enough light or something) it wont look silly.
also this isnt totally makeupish, but i think its a faux paus to wear open toed shoes wthout a proper pedicure. the toes dont need to have polish, but long crusty nails, overgrown cuticles=ick!

An Indian's Makeup Blog said... @ June 24, 2009 at 4:06 AM

Hey Laura !

Totally ! The pencil brows and penciled lips are the evil twins of the makeup world. They should be locked up for eternity !

An Indian's Makeup Blog said... @ June 24, 2009 at 4:08 AM

Hi Pharm Chick !

Ooh, lemme have a lookie at my footsies. Yea...these ones are going back into my boots - just where they belong ;)

Awiii said... @ June 24, 2009 at 5:09 AM

I would have to say too much eye makeup... my sis does it and it drives me crazy. But I also really dislike overly penciled in brows, too much blush, and ridiculously penciled lips.

Unknown said... @ June 24, 2009 at 5:57 AM

My pet peeve is heavy eye makeup that is not even applied properly. Also, foundation that is much lighter than the skin tone, so much so that the neck appears far more darker than the face.

josie said... @ June 24, 2009 at 6:33 AM

my pet peeve are indian women with moushache and unkept eyebrowss.and those harsh lips liner around the mouth.aghh...LOL... i just cant stand them..

lucky said... @ June 24, 2009 at 7:50 AM

i totally agree with the peeptoe-shoes-overgrown-nails thing. UGH.

also: women who grow their nails but don't paint them: and they get stained by curry and become yellow like smoker's nails! aaah

and you know when women put too much eyeliner on their lower waterline and it mixes with dirt in their eyes and they accumulate little black balls in their inner corners and eugh let me just go vomit now...

lol, i'm just a generally peevish person :)

-lucky

LOL! my day makeup may sounds like a lot but when I put it on, it does't look like mcuh :)

1) CVS pharmacy luminous daily moisturize.

You should SO try this, its a complete DUPE of Aveeno positively radiant haha!

2) Liquid Foundation - I have like 3 -4 lol but I wear a different one daily. The all offer natural - dewy finish.

So its either

1)Sephora brand hydrating liquid foundation

2) Prescriptives Virtual Skin

3) Aveda Inner Skin lights

OR sometimes I mix two of the above.

3) Bare Escentuals powder foundation (VERY lighty or else it looks cakey(

4) Physicians Formula Organic Loose Powder (I use it as finishing touch to my makeup. Once again, REALLY lightly)

5) Revlon Cream Blush in firt blush

6) Milani Minerals powder blush in Luminious (complete dupe of Nars orgasm blush haha)

7) Maybelline eye lash curler to curl my eyes then Revlon Lash Fantasy Mascara

8 CVS pharmacy SPF 30 lip blam and then top it off with Revlon super Lustrous lipstick in Coffee Bean (beautiful natural color) and im all set! =D

LOL yeah yeah it sounds like A LOT! but I put on each product VERY lightly and blend it in properly so it looks great :)

Anonymous said... @ June 24, 2009 at 8:47 AM

oh and I totally forgot Boots Illuminating Lotion. Its REALLY nice, adds a pretty glow tomy face. I usually wear it lightly after foundation :) Just bought it recently and its GREAT for the price. Better than some of the high end illuminators!

K. said... @ June 24, 2009 at 9:24 AM

My pet peeve is painted-on brows. OH SO SCARY! Why do people do that? I wish they would just keep it light if they have no brows instead of drawing in big black scary ones!

Most Indians don't have to worry about this, but my other pet peeve IS something I've seen Indians do: overtweeze. Why oh why do women tweeze off all their beautiful brows?

An Indian's Makeup Blog said... @ June 24, 2009 at 9:37 AM

Hi Awii !

Guess that about sums up all of mine too !

An Indian's Makeup Blog said... @ June 24, 2009 at 9:39 AM

Hi Manisha !

Yea the neck thing is the worst. Really a foundation that's may be one shade lighter done well and applied all over neck, back of the neck and face can still look okay.
What is your favorite foundation ?

An Indian's Makeup Blog said... @ June 24, 2009 at 9:41 AM

Hi Lucky !

LOL - that curry stain is hilarious. More like turmeric.
I wonder how Kareena Kapoor keeps those black ball of kajal from forming on her eye corners. I love her kajal loaded eyes ! I look weird with it :(

An Indian's Makeup Blog said... @ June 24, 2009 at 9:43 AM

Hi Meena !
You're gorgeous ! And no that doesn't seem like a whole lot. Its all the basics and looks like you've mastered your routine ! Thanks much for sharing it with us ! I really wanna try the Aveda Inner Skin Lights.

An Indian's Makeup Blog said... @ June 24, 2009 at 9:45 AM

Hi K !

Girl I just dropped by your blog. I cannot, I repeat - CANNOT believe you are the mother of two kids ! Gotto share with me your beauty and makeup routine !

And yea, the over tweezing is crazy. Its feels terrible when the hair doesn't grow back.

An Indian's Makeup Blog said... @ June 24, 2009 at 10:15 AM

Hi Josie !

Yea Mustache is tricky to pull for any woman period. LOL !
I guess people from earlier generations weren't really bothered much about it.

Hey,
I'm from Australia and my pet hate is fake fake fake tans of orange and red even - get it a lot here -
Also for indian girls, the whole long side burn look!

Rima Kaur said... @ June 24, 2009 at 11:47 AM

i share your pet peeve of heavily lined lips! another is the clumsy application of eyeshadow. i have seen SO many girls/women out there who just sweep their ENTIRE lid with some weird colour and leave it at that! i mean come on people! put the right colour on the right part of the eye!

theotherworldly said... @ June 24, 2009 at 4:39 PM

Hi, from Singapore here, my pet peeve is overdoing makeup.

For example, ridiculously drawn-on eyebrows with a heavy unnatural hand, with high arches and a too-dark colour! Apologies to those with sparse brows, but sometimes it can look really awful, especially on Asians. Some even tattoo it, oh the horror!

I can't stand thick, matte, black, stiff mascara overdone on the lower lashes too. It looks terrible!

A thick, overly matte cake of foundation that doesn't glow or have contours looks terrible. I find moles with a swipe of foundation over them all the more telling about the thick layer of makeup ... concealer around dry patches looks really sad, too.

Sherry B. said... @ June 24, 2009 at 6:37 PM

At opposite ends of the pole, overly-matte foundation and greasy-looking foundation! Also, blush applied so heavily that it looks like clown cheeks.

zaini said... @ June 24, 2009 at 8:15 PM

this is used to happen back in the day back home...women wearing face powder without moisturizer which made the face look chalky....and yeah it used to be pond's talcum powder...lol

Anonymous said... @ June 24, 2009 at 9:43 PM

Obvious and unblended (light colored) under eye concealer.

Lipstick applied on chapstick so that half of it slides right off the wax... On the other hand, lipstick just smeared on unprepped dry, scaly lips is bad, too.

[hazel] said... @ June 24, 2009 at 11:10 PM

I HAAAAAATE when women don't fill in their brows! I also hate that my mom LOL ONLY puts black eyeliner on her bottom lid and doesn't even try to make it look softer. One more thing is that her skin is lighter than mine so every time she wears lipstick, her lip liner is darker than the lip color! UGH, X_X. I keep telling her these things but she doesn't listen and that she doesn't care

shivali said... @ June 25, 2009 at 1:52 AM

i hate make up gone wrong, here is the list o fmy pet peeves
1. clumped mascara/eyelashes
2. foundation that's too light, for god sake people do the flash test!
3. heavily blushed cheeks
4. heavily done eyebrows
5. and classic lip liner pet peeve and i absolutely do get irritated by super dark lip liner. its disgusting just because hot pink lip color with dark brown lip liner sucks.

An Indian's Makeup Blog said... @ June 25, 2009 at 1:56 AM

Hi Anon !
Yea orange tans are hilarious. Speaking of tan...I really wanna see the old Rachel back in Jennifer Aniston. I love her golden year round tan look but sometimes I just miss Rachel.

An Indian's Makeup Blog said... @ June 25, 2009 at 1:58 AM

Hi Rima !

Yup, few colors look good as an allover shade for the eye. My fav are champagne, light non-sparkly gold and some pink shades. What is you fav all over lid color ?

An Indian's Makeup Blog said... @ June 25, 2009 at 2:00 AM

Hey Theotherwordly !
i was at the library a few weeks bk and there was this beautiful Asian lady about 50 yrs old. Beautiful skin, great sense of style but with the dreaded tattooed brows :(

An Indian's Makeup Blog said... @ June 25, 2009 at 2:01 AM

Hi Sherry !

Clown cheeks - one word SarahPalin that's one word ;)

An Indian's Makeup Blog said... @ June 25, 2009 at 2:03 AM

Hi Zaini !
Aah, the classic talcum powder ! I used to love dusting them all over my body after a shower during summers when I was 9 or 10. My dad did it and I am just his darling daughter ;) Its almost non existent now , wont you say !

An Indian's Makeup Blog said... @ June 25, 2009 at 2:08 AM

Hi Debonairdebacles !
I know what you're talking about. Its like the wax mixes with the lipstick and makes a waxy lip liner which then smudges around the lips fr the joker effect, right ?

An Indian's Makeup Blog said... @ June 25, 2009 at 2:10 AM

Hi Hazel !

I am guilty of applying kajal only on the lower lids too....I kinda like it. Guess its an Indian thing...
The dark liner used to be all the rage in the 90's. I remember my older cousins doing it. Thankfully I wasn't allowed to wear make up then !

An Indian's Makeup Blog said... @ June 25, 2009 at 2:12 AM

Hey Shivali !

Hehehe. You tell the folks at Prescriptives to make a note of this one. Dont let em buy a foundation with out doing the test. They'll love ya even more !

Rima Kaur said... @ June 25, 2009 at 2:23 AM

well i have this particular shade of gold that looks great all over the lid. i havent tried others, but the ones youve mentioned will definitely work! sadly i have this phobia of using pink - i always seem to think it wont look good on me! the only place where i use a shade of pink is on my cheeks. the day i get rid of this thinking, ill do a look and mail you the photos :)

Anonymous said... @ June 25, 2009 at 2:25 AM

Exactly, the joker look, lol

It's Called Maintenance said... @ June 25, 2009 at 2:28 AM

Oh where to begin. Mustashes, sideburns, beards on any ethnicity, its just not a good luck. Over use of bronzer/fake taner, if you (not YOU but the general you) are pale white or any non tan color then orange does not make you look tan it makes you look like an oompa loompa and clownlike. The foundation line, over ue of blush, Tammy Faye eye lashes and the unibrow. Oh and I hate long toe nails too. Wow I have a lot ;)

Miss Christie's Blogsale said... @ June 25, 2009 at 11:53 AM

girls in groups who do the heavy dark eye makeup thing. trying to look seductive and vampy. but coming across as old-hat, uninspired. do you know what i mean? daaaaaaark block in the crease and brown bone with intense block of highlighter under the brow. soooo icky. it's like makeup paint by numbers. barf!

An Indian's Makeup Blog said... @ June 27, 2009 at 1:39 AM

Hi BeautyMaintenance !

The unibrow - totally ! Unibrows in general are not my thing but men with thick unibrows are just yuckkkkkkk.

An Indian's Makeup Blog said... @ June 27, 2009 at 1:40 AM

Hi Christie !

Something like the chola makeup ? Its too strong to look good on anybody !
