A few months back I wrote about My Anti Acne Regime . But this one on my nose was a tough cookie. It came into being a couple of weeks before Christmas and is only now slowly fading. I never mess with them by popping or puncturing. I just ignore its presence and don't even touch em...

The scar seems to be fading on its own.
But do you have any advice for me ?
Any products that has faded your scars in the past ?

Love,
Indian Girl

Hey IG! I have the exact same problem. I used to break out a lot and I started using OCM and it seemed to control the breakouts better. I still am struggling to fade some hyperpigmentation due to acne.
I researched a lot and came across TCA peels. Now I know it sounds risky, but I was already using products with some glycolic acids in them and I ordered the 12.5% TCA peel sample from MUAC (makeupartistschoice) and used it twice. It did give some good results. The top layer of the skin just peeled off and along with it the hyperpigmentation peeled out too. It was not dramatic, but the difference was quite noticable. If I had done it two more times, the scars would have faded.
The only drawback is the constant peeling for 7 days. My face looked so dirty and people kept asking me if I was sick. I wish I could do it more often, but the 7 day peeling is very irritating.

Wow girl ! You are super brave ! I'd be too chicken to try anything of that sort out. I am just scared of everything.

Thanks for sharing this. I'm sure anybody with hyper pigmentation issues will find it very useful !

Yeah thats very brave....I was on OCP for a year and decided to give it up cos i read abt its possibel side effects...and then i started breaking otu like there is no tomorrow....they would go away btu some would last liek a month like urs AIMB....and tehy have left terrible scars..I did some research online...and found out glycolic acid helps....and how one should start with 5% and gradually increase the strength...so i got myself the 5% glycolic acid cream from ulta....but after using it in teh night for abt 2 days...it made my face all itchy and all red...so i gave it up...thought of tryin it again but had the same reaction....so that cream is def going in teh trash for me...I also bought the glycolic acid peel by boots available in target...and it's not made any diff.....Going to India in 3 months...gonna see my dermatologist abt teh scars !!!

I did have quite a bit of acne , I truly trust clinique 123 step regimen , it's simple and touch wood , since then I have been blemish free , of course you have to follow it religiously ... :) I would suggest starting with the acne treatment regimen , and then switch to clinique 123 , it has defintely improved my skin ... hope that helps ... I know Murad has a treatment that reduces acne scars .. Hope it helps ... and try to mess with it .....

Hey Anon !

I think visitin your dermatologist is the best solution if the acne is recurring. Also make a list of all products you've tried. If possible carry them along with you. Sometimes though the product might be same , the names are different in India and its better both for us and physicians if they can see it ! I've heard great thing about Glycolic acid peels and a few bad things too. Like most stuff its a hit or miss !

Hi NC !

I like the idea of CLinique becuae its a system ! Skin Gods willing I will continue having fairly normal skin. Generally its one or two a month which I guess is normal for women. But I always like to be informed - just in case I move out this zone.

You know I've been dying to try Murad ! Except the $$$ keeps me thinkin twice...

LOL! I had emailed girls on makeupalley to personally confirm their experience with TCA peel from MUAC. I was soo damn scared and I did not open the small bottle for almost a month and I did not even tell my mom about this. You see, I am a mummy's girl and she would freak out like any other indian mom who doesnt want her daughter to cut hair or screw up her face...hehehe..
Do let us know if you do find some other alternatives...My mom is visiting India and she's bought me some Shahnaz Hussain acne scars fading creams. Will let you know if they work..

You could try using Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque as a spot treatment overnight.

I've found that this helps with any hyperpigmentation I have from spots.

Clay masks can help clear up skin discolouration - Queen Helene is very cheap and a cult classic, but any mask with Kaolin clay should be good.

Hey Indian Girl!!

I have recurring cystic acne problems and have found my holy grail solution. I buy the Neutrogena Complete Acne Therapy System and use it as recommended. It's a whopping $16.99 at Target and is AMAZING. I'm 37 years old and have tried a bazillion products out there. This is what I swear by.

To fade or completely get rid of the scars/pigmentation, I use Murad's Post Acne Spot Lightening Gel. Absolutely amazing and literally rids you of the pigmentation COMPLETELY. It is a truly amazing product. Again, I've tried many, many products to fade my scars, but this is what I come back to because the difference is VISIBLE within a month.

Good luck!

sara,
i think she bought the 'shabright' and 'shawhite'(natural de-pigmentation lotion)...hope that helps. Both these products are for pigmentation due to blemishes, tanning, etc.

i used to have pretty moderate acne but have found a regimen that works for me by majorly simplifying. i was using like a million products for every problem i thought i had--oily skin, acne, pigmentation, etc. now i just use olive oil as a makeup remover, cleanse with a non foaming cleanser, moisturize with a basic light lotion, and use sunscreen. the fewer products the better, i havent gotten a pimple in like three months!
one thing that has worked a lot is my night time moisturizer--alpha hydrox 12%, you can get it at drugstore.com for like 15 bucks and really helps with acne and pigmentation.
also, with the oil and the non foaming cleanser--i thought i had oily skin and kept breaking out in my t-zone, but i actually had dry skin and the oil was overcompensating!

I use either a very light salicylic acid peel or kate sommerville's exfolikate. BTW I leave these on for only 60-90 seconds. They really help at lifting scars along with everyday use of aloevera and/or vitamin E

Neutrogena's acne mark fading peel, when used regularly (3 xs a week, it's very light) and glycolic acid toner have worked wonders for my marks. Alpha Hydrox AHA Enhanced Lotion and Acne.org both make good lotions with lactic acid. And of course good sunscreen to prevent the marks from darkening!

you're gonna laugh...but i always put a dab of crisco on a scar. it has NEVER made me break out, even when i use it all over my face as a night cream. and since one of the main ingredients is vitamin E, I find that it helps soften the look of dark spots. This issue is one of my skin pet peeves, because I get hormonal breakouts and I am half-Asian, so my skin becomes scarred very easily. i love the crisco trick as a night treatment! =]

i use honey regularly to prevent and treat break outs. it also helps with overall brightening and with scars. basically i wash my face with a non foaming cleanser (cetaphil or jojoba oil), pat dry with a towel, and slather on some organic honey all over my face. after 15 minutes, I rinse and my face is smoother and glowy, and the redness of any zit is way down. i also use it as a spot treatment overnight.
the oil and honey seem really moisturizing, but they don't cause break outs. even if you have oily skin i wouldnt be afraid to try jojoba oil!

fair and lovely as a spot treatment works well for me lol

Hi,
I meant to post this comment a few days ago, but got crazy busy. So I'm sorry I'm a little late on this.

For actual acne - I use Exfoliac Acnomega. It's a little strong... but it's SO good. It disappears quick and doesnt leave scars. I also mentioned something called Isotrexin which is a gel with antibiotic properties. That helps too.
For acne scars, I use a gel with retinoid A - you should consult a dermatologist for that.
And if you have hyper-pigmentation marks due to acne, Iklen serum is AMAZING for that. Gets rid of that in a few weeks time.

SO those are my suggestions.
Hope they help :-)

(although, these are what I get from my dad, who is a dermatologist).

If my mom gets a glimpse of acne on my face... it's a haldi+yogurt mask on those pimples. I can't say they work as quickly as the medical creams, though. :-P

Do try Exfoliac-Acnomega 100 or Isotrexin gel. I highly recommend them.

Ugh, I have a patch of scars right on my chin. I looked up Murad and started to laugh when I saw the price...I can't afford that! I use jojoba oil, which is great for softening the skin but it does nothing for my scars. And my skin is super sensitive so I'm scared to try new stuff anyway!

bio oil works a treat and leaves you skin silky!

i'v been on accutane twice in my life(i have acne since i was 11 im now 22) but it still here... I tried everything, natural or chemical...my skin doesnt like salycilic acid (it makes me break out more) and as soon as i am stressed, tired or anxious it's a complete disaster..I'm fed up and going on accutane for the third time is just not possible (too hard and too expansive)
any ideas? not expansive things i could do to heal? and fade the scars?
