I was at Ulta the other day checking out all the new stuff they had on display. That's when I saw Urban Decay's Fall 2008 and Holiday Collections. I had seen them online but trying them out at Ulta was an absolute blast ! I was like a kid at the candy store going back and forth to the mirror trying lipstick after lipstick and making notes on which ones I liked and why. LOL ! Yeah I had a notepad and a pen and wrote down the colors I liked and how they looked on me. There were a bunch of girls there who really didn't get what I was doing. They probably thought I was another geeky Indian who was taking notes and "studying" the lipsticks ! LOL, I am a beauty geek !

The lipsticks come in a gorgeous case with a dagger coming out the bottom of the case. It feels like you are pulling out the dagger when you are actually only getting out your lipstick ! According to Urban Decay this is " Not your standard Lipstick case, we added more glamour and an Urban twist: Urban Decay Lipstick tubes, made from weighty, purple metal, are pierced with a mini gunmetal dagger. The clear cap is decorated inside and out with two-toned purple flourishes. The effect is multidimensional, and incredibly luxe.Ooh la la." Ooh La La indeed !

The colors range from nudes to pinks, reds, wines, berries to every other lip color one can think of. There is also a good assortment of neutrals, warm and cool colors to match a large range of skin tones. This was one of those moments when too much choice was bad and confusing. But the website is very helpful as the colors are segregated into categories of Full Coverage, Semi- Sheer, Sheer, Cream, Sheen and Shimmer. You can click on one of these tabs and you will get a list of all the lipsticks that fit the description of sheer or which ever you chose. This I thought was great because most often I cannot tell Shimmer from Sheer just by looking at the swatches.

The lipsticks are of very good quality. They are infused with Vitamin A, C, E and have plenty of other ingredients to minimize fine lines and wrinkles. It tastes a bit of caramel but the smell isn't so caramel- ish. Thankfully the smell fades the minute you put it on, or I would have had major issues with it.

The deeper colors have a great staying power. The lighter shades are beautiful in that they are very well pigmented but at the same time look light and fresh on the lips. My two favorite light shades were Rush and Jailbait. Rush is a neutral pink and jailbait is my peeeeeeeeerrrfect nude. I can see myself reaching for one of these two colors every single day. One another favorite was Wanted , a pretty berry shade.

Few other shades I tried were Requim ( deep nude), Pistol (warm beige), Vinyl (plum), Wanted( warm berry), Wicked ( Mauve). Pistol and Wicked were the two shades that had some silver shimmer on it. The shimmer looks heavy in the tube put comes off looking very pleasant on the lips. Vinyl is a great shade for medium / medium dark to dark skin tones. Its looks very deep in the case but comes off as a plum with a touch of purple - very different, very nice.

I am still not done with these lipsticks. I have Tease and Indecent on my list. Which ones do you like? Take my word and just get one at least for the brilliant , one of a kind packaging. They also have the case alone for sale, its limited edition though so go get it before they stop selling it. You can then show off your favorite lipstick with oodles of style !

The price does seem a little steep at $22 but the quality, the choice of colors and the packaging makes it totally worth it.

I even made up a slogan for it " Your weapon of choice in this Lipstick Jungle " LOL ! I actually mailed a couple of revolution ( true red) lipsticks from UD to my BFFs last weekend and wrote this on the card I sent with it. At least one of em thought it was funny ;)

Love,
Indian Girl

I ran to Ulta today and got Wanted after reading your review. Its the perfect everyday shade for me, while I was there I tried surreal makeup in hallucination and found my perfect match :). I plan on going back to get another UD lipstick but cant decide between requim and pistol.

Hi Sunny,

Ooh Requim and Pistol huh...tough choice. Pistol has some shimmer to it ...so it will be very different from Wanted. But then Requim is another great everyday color ! Lemme know what you decide :)
