As I mentioned earlier, I hit the drugstores this past weekend to find the best red lipstick there, for me. I went around aisle after aisle looking at every brand and what reds they had. I picked out all the reds into a basket and narrowed them down to four that were as red as possible without being too orange or too deep , did not have any weird smell and something I would confidently wear. The four reds that made the mark were the following ( L to R in the pics in the following order)

Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lipstick in Temptation
Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lipstick in Alarm
Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Certainly Red
Revlon Color stay Lip Color in Red Velvet

What did I finally decide on keeping? Both the Rimmel ones. I'll tell you why...
They are both nice warm shades that are easy to apply without being too slippery so you have enough control on how much goes where and stay put for really long.

Temptation
is beautiful red which is a little deeper than Alarm and has a few red sparkles in it. The sparkles are shown well on the tube but do not appear as shimmery on your lips. It is by far my most favorite of all the four because its very easy to wear for a person who is new to red lipsticks. The color flatters a variety of skin tones and looks great on its own or with some gloss over it.

Alarm is a true red, with a matte finish, no sparkles and makes me feel very Christina Aguilera-ish. It looks awesome with some gloss over it. On its own its a bold color to pull off easily or for a everyday red lipstick look.

Coming to the Revlon lipsticks...
Certainly Red is a great color with some pink tones to it which wasn't flattering on me. I am not too sure but I think this will look great on people with a light skin tone. That being said, the lipstick is not very easy to apply. You will most definitely need a lip brush to apply it. Overall, not great for me.

The Color stay Lip color in Red Velvet is a whole another story. Its way too moisturizing...so much that it slips on my lips making ti difficult to control how much goes on and how it goes on. The product feathers easily and the color did not flatter me. I think it has some blue tones to it, I guess. Again, I did not like how it looked on me. the formula could work out great on a nude lipstick or a pinkish one that isnt too bright may be but not for a red.

All that bring said and done.....take a look at this - the mother of all red lip looks :)
I filled my lips with Temptation, ran over it with Alarm and added a touch of Sally Hansen Lipnotic Gem Lipgloss in Lavish

Hope you enjoyed my tour in finding Drugstore's best red lipsticks. Stick around coz I'll be back in a while with some Department store reds :)

Love the look with the gloss...

Lipstick by itself might be too orangy on me, ala 80's..

Hey there .. cool blog! really enjoyed the post but am getting conflicting views on choosing the best red lipstick for south asian people .. i'm sort of medium skin, possibly the same skin tone as you or a lil darker .. and i've been told 'blu-reds' are best .. and then in another post i read 'orange based' reds are best for my gals with my skin tone .. which is best? =/ i'm really confused ... i know to avoide orangey redsthough! I'm looking for hollywood red .. but something that a mediaum toned asian can pull off =D xxx
