I want me some red lipstick. I've had my eye on port red l/s from the naughty nautical collection... how close is that to russian red?

I forgot to add: or if you have any red lipsticks that you really like? From the photos on here I think I am fairly close to your skin tone :)

Nosh:
Hey there! To tell the truth, I dont have a RED lipstick of my own.One reason being, I am always scared of getting it on my teeth and two being...I havent found my red yet :(
The closest to red I have come is trying Revlon Lipstick in Raisin Rum. Its not a true red..but I wear it almost everyday during winters. If you are of my skin tone you have to try it... For a red gloss I like Revlon Cherries in the glow ligloss.
Coming to MAC lipsticks...
Russian Red had blue undertones so it is best left for very fair girls, I think. Port red, on the other hand is a very good option if you have yellow undertones like me. It looks even better if you top it with a shiny gloss. Hope this helps.

Thanks so much! I don't want to spend too much on a red lipstick the first time around in case I don't like it... so I am gonna check out the red revlon gloss first and see how it looks on me :D

As for getting it on your teeth, the finger in mouth method actually has always worked for me hehe :D

i am about a C6 in MAC (medium dark) and some of my favorite reds are: dubonnet from MAC and calcutta red from Prescriptives. Another trick that works for me cause dark lipstick tends to bleed on me is to:
1.Exfoliate my lips with a toothbrush to get rid of dead skin first
2.Apply lots of lip balm, let it soak in for a few minutes,
3. LIGHTLY line my lips and smudge the line slightly
4. Apply the lipstick with either my fingers or a lipbrush and apply gloss.
5. THEN do the finger in mouth move:)
this usually makes my lips stay nice and red for a few hours.

Thank you SS for sharing your routine with us !! Thank you for taking out the time :)
I am definitely gonna try this same pattern the next time I go for a dark lips look.
